Winterfox is an American esports organization that fields teams in Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Street Fighter IV and Halo 5.

History

Winterfox was originally founded in January 2015 as a League of Legends team. Originally playing under the Evil Geniuses brand, a change in the sponsorship rules forced them to rebrand. Since then, they've expanded into multiple games and no longer field a LoL team.

Halo 2: Anniversary

On April 17 at the beginning of HCS Season 2, Winterfox announced its first Halo roster of Randa, ContrA, Naded, and Ryanoob. These players formerly went by the name of Team Randa, and under that name, earned the #1 seed going into Iron Games Atlanta 2015. At the event, they were upset relatively early in the winners' bracket by OpTic Gaming. They then made a losers' bracket run, defeating Reality Check, Noble Black and Counter Logic Gaming before being swept 3-0 in controversial fashion by Cloud9. During the closing moments of Game 3, a glitch occurred which prevented Cloud9 from accruing hill time, resulting in the game being replayed from a point. Winterfox lost the game, ending their event with a 4th place finish. On April 29, Winterfox announced that they had purchased the contract of Arkanum from Noble eSports, and released ContrA.

The new roster's first tournament was a success, as they won the first HCS cup of the season. They stagnated from there, placing as high as 3rd and as low as top 16 in the next four cups. On the weekend of Cup 6, team Winterfox attended a practice LAN hosted by team eXcellence, and won the Cup in the process. Winterfox placed 2nd in the final cup of the season heading into HCS Indianapolis. At the event, Winterfox were again beaten early by OpTic Gaming, and again they staged a run in the Losers' Bracket. They eliminated eXcellence, Team Liquid and Cloud9 before losing to Counter Logic Gaming by one kill in Losers' Round 8, ending their tournament with a repeat 4th place finish. Winterfox went into the HCS Season 2 Finals with the 3rd seed. Their first match was against OpTic Gaming, the team that had beaten them at two straight events. This time, Winterfox prevailed 3-1 over OpTic, but they were defeated 3-1 in the next round by Denial eSports. In the LB, Winterfox lost 3-1 to Cloud9 en route to a top 6 finish.

Halo 5: Guardians

On August 22, 2015, it was announced that Randa and the team would be moving in different directions with him no longer being on the roster. On August 31, Winterfox announced the acquisition of Spartan and Shooter to fill out the roster. Naded's departure from the organization was finally made official on October 25, when he announced his new team. On December 15, Winterfox (with Randa subbing in for the absent Spartan) took 2nd place in the Astro Spartans $1,000 4v4 online tournament. On January 20, Spartan's release was finalized as well as the official return of Randa.During the roster hurricane caused by Lethul leaving Evil Geniuses, Arkanum left Winterfox to join Team EnVyUs. This left Winterfox short a teammate going into the 5th cup. They picked up Domey shortly before the cup. In the cup, they were successful in qualifying for the HWC 2016 NA Regional Finals. At NA Regionals, Winterfox went winless in their group, losing to Evil Geniuses and Denial eSports. Thus, they finished top 16 and did not qualify for Halo World Championship 2016. On April 11, 2016, Shooter was confirmed to be leaving Winterfox to join Enigma6 Group. Shortly after, on April 22, it was announced that Ryanoob would be departing to join the new Team Allegiance roster.
