Halo World Championship 2018 is the third annual Halo World Championship event, taking place at the Century Link Field Event Center in Seattle, Washington from April 13 - 15, 2018. Halo 5: Guardians is played in 4v4 competition.

Overview

2018 sees the Halo World Championship hosted by Major League Gaming for the first time. The structure has been reverted to a format more akin to 2016, with the key difference being the omission of the Asia region for the second consecutive year. A total of sixteen teams are invited, nine from North America, four from Europe/Middle East, two from Australia and New Zealand and one from Latin America, based on the results of international LAN qualifiers. These sixteen teams compete for a prize pool of $1,000,000.

Format

4v4

• Sixteen teams in attendance
• Four groups of four teams
• Round robin format - each team plays all teams in their group
• Top two teams advance to Championship Bracket
• Bottom two teams are eliminated from tournament
• Championship bracket is 8-team double-elimination, all best-of-7

FFA

• Twelve-player tournament
  • Four players qualified through regional open LANs (Orlando, London, Sydney, Mexico City)
  • Five players qualified through FFA Qualifier series at Microsoft Stores
  • Three players qualified through on-site open FFA tournament
• Players split into groups of six to compete on two maps (Truth and Regret)
• Top three from each group compete in one game on Truth to determine 2018 World Champion

Broadcast

The event features two streams - the Main stream (Mixer, Twitch, MLG, Twitter Live) and the Bravo stream (Mixer, Twitch, MLG), which focuses on the secondary stage. Broadcast talent includes Butters, Bravo, StrongSide, Onset, Richard Simms, Elamite, Lethal, Walshy, Wonderboy, Goldenboy, Lottie Van-Praag, Clutch, and Dan Gaskin.
